Recycling of masks

Precautions against the spreading of the Corona virus have masks that cover nose and mouth become scarce and expensive.

In addition to the possibility of sewing or having them sewn, used masks made out of cotton fabric can be reused by dipping them into a disinfection for about 1 minute and letting them air-dry afterwards.

Suitable disinfectants are 60-80% alcohol or isopropanol as well as a 5% hydrogen peroxide solution. Cotton masks can also be treated in the same way or machine washed at 60°C together with a heavy duty detergent.
